I’m STILL alive!

I wanted to make a quick announcement.
I am planning on sort of changing up the flow of my blog. I’ve been slowly getting back into my art and I wanted to take this opportunity to share some (or maybe all) of them with those who are totally willing to check it out. I’m not trying to sell anything, I just want to take a bigger step in sharing a lot more with what can really connect you guys to me aside from makeup. I’ll continue to do a few makeup posts but I’d like to incorporate some raw art work. Basically, I want to transform this blog into something dedicated to life and art. My apologies for being so out of it these last few months, life’s is just… life. I’m excited but nervous because I’ve really only posted a lot of my stuff on Instagram and Facebook so this is kind of a big thing for me. It’s another doorway I’m opening to share pieces of me and what mechanics of my imagination. I’ll be posting a few things in the next couple of days. I really hope you all will like them.

How To: Repair Broken Pressed Powder Makeup

Hey lovelies!

It slipped my mind that I uploaded this almost a week ago and never posted it on my blog. You’d think I had the memory of a 90 year old woman or something haha.

This is my first “How To” video and it’s on something that I know I do quite often. I’m a clutz and there’s never a day where I don’t fail to drop/break something. Apparently it is an everyday must in my life.

So if this has ever happened to you and you’re next thought is to dump the makeup, STOP. RIGHT. THERE. You can totally save it without any issue. All you need is a couple drops of alcohol (rubbing alcohol, that is) and some patience. Follow the instruction on my video and your powder makeup should be good as new.

Jolene – Miley Cyrus (Dolly Parton Cover)

I’m not a huge country buff BUT this is one of my favorite songs from Dolly Parton. She’s pretty freakin amazing if you ask me. I just recently discovered Miley Cyrus’ cover of this song for The Backyard Sessions. It’s pure gold! I know for these last couple of years, she’s been getting so much criticism on the things that she does, what she wears, where she goes, and what she says. I remain a fan, regardless of all of that. She’s an amazing artist who’s still trying to find her place in the world.

I’m ALIVE!

I’m fully recovered and excited to get back into the groove. Instead of writing out an novel about my whereabouts and happenings in the last week and a half, I’ve provided a slightly odd introduction to my official Youtube channel. Watch it, like it, sub it, and let me know what you think. Stay tuned… I’ve decided to give you guys a DOUBLE WHAMMY! I currently have another treat uploading. Get excited yall!

Feeling not-so-grand today.

Hello all,

I’m not feeling too great today. I feel like I’m coming down with a cold but I’m scared it might be more because I’ve been surrounded by people who’ve recently had pneumonia. I’m praying it doesn’t come down to that because that means I’d have to completely isolate myself from everyone and everything until I’m fully recovered. I’m hoping it’s just my paranoia getting the best of me and its only the  flu. The good thing is I’m not completely engulfed by this sickness and that I’ve caught it in its earlier stages. My throat has become slightly sore but not to the point where I feel like something’s trying to claw its way out but my body has been getting that weird feeling. I can’t really explain it but it’s a feeling I’m familiar enough with to know that a fever will be coming soon. It’s like my body has this awkward stage of “blah” before the intensity of the sickness comes rolling in. Thankfully, I have a few things lined up to hopefully fight this great evil trying to overtake my body. I’ve got a steamy shower, vapor rub, and flu medicine to help conquer this sucker. I’ll need to get some ginger tomorrow to make this concoction my Mom swears by. I’ll do a little review for you all to see if it helps and I’ll also include the recipe. Here’s to hoping I feel better within the next week or so. Sorry this wasn’t anything like a haul, review, or tutorial. I just don’t have much strength to do anything if I’m not all here and at my very best.

I do hope you are all having a wonderful week. The weekends almost here, YAY! Nothing guarantees me more rest than a weekend full of recovering. If you guys have any remedies you think I should try, comment below. I’d love to have a few options to help me get over this.

Big Bold Beauty nominated for the Liebster Blog Award!

I want to give a HUGE thank you to my amazingly beautiful friend, Jess Classy, for nominating me! I’m seriously geeking out about this and am extremely excited to get into this! Check out her Liebster Blog Award nominee entry here and while you’re there, go ahead and click that follow button. You’d be crazy not to!

Alright, let’s get started…

Here are the rules:  The person nominated must answer the 5 questions given by the person who nominated them AND tell 5 random facts about yourself. Then, nominate 5 blogs with under 200 followers, make sure to tell them you nominated them! Ask the people you nominate 5 questions of your own.

QUESTIONS

1. Meaning behind favorite movie?

I’ve always been a sucker for The Swan Princess. I just loved that Princess Odette knew that she couldn’t be with someone who couldn’t see beyond her looks. Granted that Prince Derek wises up and figures out why he really loves her. When she turned him down because all he saw were her looks, it became something that really stuck with me. I’m not saying I’m a dime piece and every guy is after me. I learned that if I’m going to be with someone, I need to know if the love is genuinely there.

2. One trait you can’t live without in a boyfriend/girlfriend?

I… *sigh* am currently single :D. If I were in a relationship, I’d have to say humor. I need to be able to laugh with a guy especially at the littlest of things.

3. Favorite product?

This isn’t fair. I can’t just… it’s impossible to… you’re seriously going to make me choose? *sigh* Alright… let’s see. I’d have to say that my current favorite product is Be A Bombshell‘s eye liner in Onyx from Ipsy’s October Glambag. It lasts really long and doesn’t stain my lid. I have a hooded eye and its tough to find a good liner that won’t budge and I do believe I’ve found a winner.

4. Can you cook? If so, what is your favorite dish to cook?

Yes! I love to cook especially if it’s something I’ve never tried before. I’ve actually concocted an amazing dish called “The Last Minute” ground beef casserole. I literally came up with the recipe at the last minute when trying to prepare for a potluck with my friends. That and I make a pretty mean white sauce lasagna.

5. Favorite restaurant?

I. LOVE. SUSHI. So it’s tie between KuruKuru and Genki’s. If we’re talking REAL fancy-shmancy places then Shokudo’s for sure. They have this amazing dessert called honey toast. You haven’t lived unless you’ve tried their honey toast!

FIVE RANDOM RACTS ABOUT ME

1. I used to be a ridiculously hardcore tomboy. If I can dig up a picture of my tomboy-ness, I’ll definitely post it here to show you how hardcore I was when I was younger.

2. I am the second youngest of 10 (including my 3 half sisters and 1 half brother).

3. When I was a kid, I told my cousin that I drank shark blood and that it tasted like Cherry Kool-Aid.

4. I’m the only one out of my mediate siblings that can’t speak Samoan fluently. I’m basically the most un-Samoan out of the 6 of us.

5. When I was a kid, I stole a Reeses peanut butter cup from a store then went back to pay for it because I felt horrible for doing it and the store owner gave me a free soda.

Review: Kat Von D Lock-it Tattoo Foundation & Make Up For Ever’s HD Primer

Hello loves,

I’m here with my very first makeup review on two new products I picked up about a week and a half ago. The past couple of days I’ve been testing them out and am finally able to sit down to give you guys my thoughts on these products.

Kat Von D Lock-it Tattoo Foundation — $34.00
The foundations packaging is really beautiful. It really is something you know Kat Von D would design. From the floral patterns on the box to the ones on the actual foundation bottle, it’s really cute. The bottle is designed to be like a pump. At the top of the bottle, you would simply push down and a dollop of foundation will come out of the little nozzle. An awesome thing about the mechanics of this bottle is that you can see how much is left inside after you use a few times. The little capsule inside of the bottle is designed so that its base slowly rises after every use. That way you’ll know if you have half a bottle left or less. Love it!

Make Up For Ever HD Primer — $34.00
The packaging for this primer is very classy and simple.  Black packaging, sleek design, and the product is in a frosted bottle.

*Both items were purchased at Sephora

Below will be a series of photos I have taken of myself throughout an entire day of wearing both products.

4:30 am
Face is completely free of makeup and fresh after a quick wash. Used Witch Hazel to help clean and control my oily skin (because it gets that oily, let me tell ya).
*I realize I should have taken a photo of my face with all its natural oils before I went ahead with washing my face. Apologies & I’ll try my best to keep that in mind if/when I test out another foundation.

4:45 am
Applied MUFE HD primer. I love that it dries quickly and my skin felt very smooth to the touch.
Used one pump of KVD Lock-it Tattoo Foundation and was impressed with the coverage I was getting with only one full pump. To cover my entire face I’d need approximately 1 1/2 pumps of the foundation. It did a great job in covering a lot of my blemishes and redness. I have a few dark blemishes on my left cheek and chin. The redness around my nose and mouth have been completely muted by the foundation and has given me a fresh canvas to work with.  After giving it a few minutes, the foundation really smoothed out and was very soft. Wasn’t sticky or pasty.

6:50 am
Full face of makeup. Did not set foundation. I wanted to see how well it worked on its own. The flawless matte finish was beyond what I expected. I could work better with my skin because the colors were evened out on my face. I applied the rest of my makeup right after I had taken a photo of just the foundation on my face. My skin secretes oil like madness so I was interested to see how well it would hold. So far, loving it.

12:00 pm
On my lunch break. Did side shots to show how the foundation has been holding up. You can see a bit of shine peeking out from the top of my forehead but nothing major.  Again, I did not use a setting powder which could have made a difference. Blemishes and redness have still remained completely concealed. Very happy about that.

6:30 pm
I’ve had the foundation on for a little over 12 hours now. As you can see, a lot of the oil did surface but still no redness and blemishes. I will say that I was out shopping and was walking all over the place. I sweat like crazy if I’m constantly on the go-go-go and I was definitely that (and more) while I was out. I believe that contributed to the oil being able to surface a lot more. As I had mentioned before, I did not set the foundation because I wanted to see how well it works by itself. Even with the sweat, I want to say that the foundation held up very well. I was actually pretty impressed.

Overall: I think both the primer and the foundation work extremely well together. The foundation has a thicker consistency compared to a lot of the regular ones. The primer is lightweight so it doesn’t feel heavy when I add on the foundation. Both products complimented each other and gave awesome balance. The beauty about the foundation and primer is that a little can go a long way. One full pump should do the job for just about anyone. Overall, I got my moneys worth and am excited to have found something to switch up my old routine.

Thank you for checking out my blog and for taking the time out to read this review. If there are any products you’d like to suggest for upcoming reviews, feel free to comment below. Any critique for future blogs are welcome but please do so in a civil manner. Let me know if you’ve also tried these products, I’d love to hear your opinions about them.

Open Package Review: November Ipsy (Glambag) Edition

Hello there, lovelies.
So it’s that time of the month (no, not that one)! I am a super proud subscriber to Ipsy (formerly known as MyGlam) and am excited to show you guys what I got for the month of November. Before I get into all that good stuff, let me give you guys a little information on what exactly Ipsy is. I’m sure most of you are familiar with Birchbox, Beauty Army, Julep, MakeupMonthly, and all those other services. If you are then you should have a pretty good idea on what Ipsy is. These are all services that send their subscribers monthly packages of beauty samples. You sign up with them, pay them a monthly fee, and in return they send you a package of little goodies. The awesome thing about this is that some (or maybe most) send you a very generous amount of the sampled product. It’s definitely not like going into a store and getting a little swab of the product and whatnot. They provide you with enough product for at least 2-3 uses. Ipsy will actually be turning 1 this coming December and I’m quite excited to see how they’ll celebrate their first year. They put out their first bag in December 2011 and though I was able to sign up, I was wait-listed for January 2012. From then on, I’ve been faithful to their services and remained subscribed to this very day. What I love the most about this, aside from getting awesome beauty products, is that every month is themed and every bag is different. Fab, right?? It’s run by a group of amazing YouTube beauty gurus and I’m so excited to see what more they have in store for Ipsy.

Okay, with all that being said. On to the good stuff…

Basically, the way the Glambag is packaged is the same. They send the bag in a hot pink envelope so this baby really sticks out. If you’re out checking your mail and you catch just a glimpse of pink, you already know it’s that time of the month. November’s theme is “Party Perfect.” The bag itself has a sleek and simple design. I noticed that a lot of girls who reviewed the bag said it was black. It’s actually a very deep, almost chocolate-y brown color. I love it. Definitely blends with the fall season.

First product I pulled was Nailtini nail polish in “Millionaire” from the ‘Tini Beauty Lounge.
It’s all glitter and sparkles. Very fit for this months party theme. I’m excited to try this one out because of how the sparkles catch the light. Thinking about how this will literally be on the tips of my fingers excites me very much!

Second product I pulled is a sample shadow from The Balm‘s “Meet Matt(e)” eye shadow palette. I got “Matt Batali.” The color comes off as a deep brown at first glance but when I swatched it, there seemed to be a plum-esque hint to it. The palette consists of 9 matte colors and is perfect for a “neutral to night” look. I can never get enough of matte shadows!

Third product I pulled is bareMinerals Marvelous Moxie Lipgloss in the shade “Dare Devil.” Though it didn’t show up in the photo I have posted (most likely because of the envelope), the color is a deep, almost-purple shade. I was able to test it out earlier and was very pleased with it. It wasn’t too ‘gloppy’ especially after two coats. It also gives the lips a little tingle as well. I’m not sure if that’s normal but I definitely felt a minty-like kick on my lips.

Fourth product I pulled is a Starlet Cosmetics eyeliner in black. I forgot to take a pic of the swatch I did with this liner. It glided on very smoothly compared to the liner I use now. I’m in absolute love with the packaging. The cover and most of the body is a matte white. The body of the eyeliner has this really cool pink mist at the ends to dress it up a bit. It’s adorable!

The final product I pulled is a Chella eyebrow defining gel. It may look like your typical mascara set but don’t let that fool you. This product is actually meant to help tame your brows even on your most beastliest of beastly brow days. I’ve been meaning to try something like this because I’d only been using mascara (clear or brown) to do it. This makes me glad I didn’t go out and buy one… totally meant to be!

If you haven’t noticed and are wondering where you can possibly purchase these products, I’ve linked them all to products company name in the little captions below the photos.

I currently pay $10.00 a month as a subscriber to Ipsy and if you want any more information click here.

If you are also an Ipsy subscriber and have done a blog review, leave a comment below. I’d love to check it out and see what your thoughts are on this months products. Also, if you’ve got suggestions on products you think I should check out, let me know down below! Thank you so much for taking the time out of your day/night to check out my blog. I truly appreciate it 😉
